Welcome new people!

I haven't done one of these sorts of posts in ages. I also realized that my entire journal is locked. After LJ died, I wasn't quite sure of what to do with myself in regard to online journals. But this friending meme has convinced me to start using this journal a bit more.

I'm currently pursuing a Master's degree in Communications. Naturally, this is eating up a lot of time. Though I still have time to participate in fandom a bit.

I've been playing video games for over twenty years now, so most of my fandoms are video game related.

Final Fantasy
I've played through them all except the MMOs and FF3. My favorites are FFIV-VI. Dissidia made me a fan of Bartz because Nomura redrew him as a bishounen

I actually greatly enjoyed FFXIII and even FFXIII-2. The stories in both were iffy, but the battle system was more than enough to keep me playing to Platinum in both. I also hated FFXII at first, but started liking it after I got enough Gambits to actually do things.

Ever since I saw people play Persona 4 Arena, I've really wanted to get into this series. I actually own Persona 2-4 (2-3 on PSP, 4 on PS2), but I don't really have the time to play them.

Tales of series
Got into this series 7 years ago and I've been hooked since. I've gone to great lengths to play as many games in the series as possible, which includes doing such things as playing fan translations on emulators, emulating the PS1 version of ToD on my PSP despite occasional random freezes, hacking my PSP to play the PSP ports of various Japan-only Tales games (I later bought them), and trading with a British friend for a copy of Tales of Eternia PSP. Needless to say, I love this series.

I've played: Phantasia, Destiny, Eternia, Rebirth, Symphonia, Abyss, Destiny remake, Vesperia, and Graces F.

Mega Man
I'm a fan of pretty much every series except the original, Legends, and Star Force. I have nothing against those series... well, okay, I hate classic Mega Man gameplay. But otherwise I like most of the series overall. I'm a huge fan of the X series and all of its angsty robot goodness. I've cooled off on this series ever since Capcom essentially killed it, though.

Star Ocean
Played through all of them except Blue Sphere. My favorites are SO2 and 3. SO1 for the Super Famicom also has a special place in my heart. I've also played the PSP remakes of SO1 and 2. I beat SO4 last year, and while I didn't find it as offensive to all things good and decent as many others did, it was still... kind of bad. At least the battle system was good.

I got seriously burnt out after playing though Soul Silver. The nostalgia trip was nice, but they made it unnecessarily hard to level in that game and I eventually got bored post game while exploring Kanto.

And then came gen 5. I skipped the first versions of Black and White thinking they were Heart Gold/Soul Silver all over again. Then I picked up Black 2 back in October. Man was I ever wrong. Gen 5 is AMAZING. They removed so many of the things I found frustrating about the Pokemon games. And now I find myself 100+ hours in and still raising a Pokemon team. And they gave you so much to do in this game. And then there's Join Avenue. It's nuts. I'm almost frightened by how addicting this series has become once Game Freak removed or softened some of the most annoying bits.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters
The love of my life. I was super into this series from about 2003-2005. Then I got bored of it and jumped ship to Bleach fandom since it was the hot new thing.

Reading some amazing fic in the fandom got me back into the series full force. It's been so long that even Yu-Gi-Oh 5D's has finished. I like to pretend that Zexal doesn't exist, so I mostly rewatch and reread (I never actually DID finish the anime or manga of this) what I have of it. Mostly I hang on through tumblr reblogs, lol.

My favorite character is Seto Kaiba, and he's one of the main reasons I can't get into the later series. I just can't imagine anyone matching Kaiba's level of over the top ridiculousness. I've heard that Jack Atlas in 5D's comes close, though. I miiiiight check that out, but I'm lazy about watching long, episodic things these days (not just anime).

I read this weekly. Not huge into it anymore, though.

My favorite currently running Jump manga. Not too much into the fandom, but I do like discussing weekly chapters.

I really enjoy this manga, but it's not the kind of thing I read fic for.

White Collar
I follow this quite devotedly. I know the writing isn't the best, but I still think it's a pretty good show. I really like Peter and Neal's relationship. I have a thing for father-son relationships that develop between people who aren't actually related. That goes for any family relationship, really.

In terms of fic, these days I'll read just about anything I find interesting for a fandom I know enough about. I read Avengers fic every now and then if it catches my attention. I've even read Sherlock fic, even though I've only seen the first 3 episodes of that show.

As for writing fic, I have a lot of trouble with confidence in this area. I'm working on something right now. I'll see how it goes. I might be ready to post the chapter, but I haven't even figured out a title for it yet. It's 10k words so far and still going. It's a rather ridiculous crossover that I'm trying out to see if it works.

That's about it.
